Secrets Revealed: How to Make 2017 Your Best Year

Motivating and informative are two words that describe this show. During such a busy time of year, when our heads are on a 360 degree swivel – one eye on our day-to-day tactical pursuits, the other planning for next year – it honestly is a hectic time for everyone. So, with this in mind, we were inspired to put together a show called “Thriving: How to Make 2017 Your Best Year Yet!” and invite some business coaches and entrepreneurs to share their knowledge. Our panelists include, Cameron Brown of Thriving Collective; Kamahl Barhoush of Barefoot Business; and Scott Moore a Marketing Specialist and Entrepreneur. Below are some of the key insights that we think everyone should carry forward into 2017. To playback the full video, watch now.

Here are some of the key insights that we think everyone should carry forward today and into 2017:

Keep Your Chin Up

Scott kicked things off advising people to “keep an eye on the horizon.” We’re so busy “making things happen” that we forget to elevate ourselves, lift our heads up, and make sure we’re full aware of where we’re going – not to mention where we’ve been. We love this point, especially ‘where we’ve been,’ all too often we’re so busy plugging away that we forget to celebrate how far we’ve come, even if it is just a short distance.

Look to Your Inner Child

Kamahl encourages us, “not to lose our child-like wonder and sense of curiosity.” This is where playfulness, creativity and vulneratibilty live – a critical place in all of us that helps us grows and thrive. Combine this with the question “why am I here,” which gives us a sense of stability and security. The two forces create a monumental shift, becoming a valuable life tool that will catapult us ahead to success.

Answer This One Question, Often

What is my number one problem right now? “I wake up every morning and ask myself this question,” Kamahl says. With so many things going on in our lives, we have many conflicting priorities, some big some small, but they all take up critical space in our brains. So, Kamahls suggests we reframe our priorities, which helps dissolve the stress and the pressures that consume and overwhelm us daily.

Don’t Avoid Risk

Cameron pushes us to take risk. In the moment things can seem really challenging, but he reminds us that the opportunity is so great. We must have an understanding of what our mission is, and tweak along the way, he says. “Things will come up that outside of your control, and your ability to switch and adapt will be crucial. We must learn to become the best version of us.” There is a huge amount of risk in many facets of life, and he poses a good question: what’s the worst case scenario, and are you OK with it? When we think about it this way, the risk doesn’t seem so grand anymore. Of course, we may need to change our strategy, but if we don’t adapt we run the risk of self sabotage, or ruining whatever it is we had hoped to create. His final advice on risk is this –“you need to push too far, to know what too far is.” Wise words, Cameron!

As a final question we asked the panelist to provide one lasting though on “how people can get over the fear of change and moving forward so that we can conquer 2017″:

Kamahl – connect to your reason why, set markers for success, and solve the number one problem in front of you right now!

Cameron – get to the core of what’s planning out, answer the “why” using emotional intelligence, and then find the actionable tools that will help you get past it.

Scott – look ahead 3 to 5 years, and develop that clear picture of where you’re going to be. Envision the title on the door; what you’re doing, and maintain that horizon view. Don’t be afraid to make minor changes, not everything has to be drastic. You will get there!

An eye-opening panel – thank you Cameron, Scott and Kamahl. Here’s to making the most of today, tomorrow and beyond – wishing everyone a happy, healthy and prosperous 2017.
